Week 5 - Summer Arts Camp
-
Do you love to paint? Stretch your painting skills during this camp week, as we experiment and explore acrylic painting. We’ll get inspired by contemporary artists, learn about landscapes, and play with abstract painting, too! We will introduce different painting techniques and styles to create vibrant artworks.
-
Do you have a dragon/unicorn/pegasus loving kid? This dance camp will be full of fun magical songs! Magical Creatures camp will incorporate jazz and hip–hop basics for a super FUN camp. On the last camp day, dancers will get to demonstrate some of their moves for family and friends and dress up in their favorite dragon, unicorn, rainbow or pegasus attire! Dress requirement: athletic clothing, ballet or jazz shoes recommended, but socks are ok too.
-
Spend the week celebrating your love for pets and animals through art! We’ll be looking at our beloved animals and learning how to incorporate them into our artwork. Campers will focus on learning how to draw their own adorable pet (or the one they want!) while experimenting with different mediums!
-
Get your hands dirty this summer! Learn about clay and the basic techniques of throwing pottery on the wheel. Create cups and bowls and experiment with different techniques for adding finishing touches to your work. All work will be fired with food–safe glazes. Look for an email from the Phipps when the pottery is ready for pick up, approximately two weeks after camp. Closed–toed shoes must be worn in the ceramics studio.
-
Learn the basics of cinematography, storytelling, characters, video, and audio editing. Use those new skills to film your own original movie and share it on the last day of camp. Campers should bring a video recording device (cell phone, tablet, iPad). Limited devices are available from the instructor; please notify us in advance if you'd like to use one.
-
Campers will create art that moves, spins, or interacts with its environment. All week, we will explore how movement and mechanics can bring creations to life. Using everyday materials like paper, string, and recycled objects, we’ll experiment with balance, motion, and interactivity to build dynamic artworks. This camp combines creativity, engineering, and fun!
-
Join us on Monday where we cast the show, then rehearse scenes, songs and dances all week. This musical adaptation of Disney’s beloved Finding Nemo tells the story of Marlin, an anxious and over-protective clownfish, living in the Great Barrier Reef with his kid Nemo, who longs to explore the world beyond their anemone home. This is a great opportunity to experience the process of creating and performing a musical in a fun and supportive environment. Performance on the last day of camp!
-
An introduction to designing the sets, costumes, props, lights and sound that enhance the magic of every theatre experience. Each day students will explore and experiment using their own creative ideas alongside a professional Theatre Artist/Designer as they become the Design Crew for our FINDING NEMO kids performance workshop.
-
Are you going to audition for your school shows? For the shows at the Phipps? Auditions can be scary and stressful. Come and learn ways to approach an audition with confidence and positivity in a supportive environment with an experienced actor and director. Students will work on tips and techniques for successful auditions and an individual monologue they can take with them at the end of camp.
-
Join us for a fun and creative week where campers will learn basic stitching techniques while exploring a variety of materials to create unique projects. We will make small felt creatures, custom bookmarks, design one–of–a–kind fabric patches and sew simple drawstring bags. No sewing experience is necessary!
-
This camp is a great way for dancers to learn fun new leaps and turns and to hone their skills. Katie brings her experience as a Hudson High School Raidaire dancer to help dancers find their balance and power. Dancers can take this camp both weeks offered, or just one week. Dress requirement: athletic clothing, turners or jazz shoes.
-
Teens get to work with Thomasina TopBear, artist of the recently completed mural on the Phipps building, for this exciting week of camp. Teens will learn the basics of creating murals using spray paint! Each student will be provided the space to learn and practice new techniques, and they will be given access to the tools needed to learn how to safely use spray paint outdoors. The final project will be a group mural for public display on a wall at the Phipps!
