Come get creative in our afterschool art class with teaching artist Petra Guenther-Johnson! Perfect for kids who love to draw, paint, and make things, this class is all about having fun and expressing yourself. Experiment with different materials and techniques, develop your skills as an artist, and explore your imagination in this welcoming weekly class. All materials included.

Dreaming of Spring? Shake off the winter blues and join us for this paper collage workshop where we will use a playful mix of magazine images, paper scraps, color and doodling to awaken our senses to the sights, sounds and feelings of spring. We will craft beautiful collages that celebrate the season. No experience is needed, and all materials are provided. Class limited to 12.

Adult and child must register as separate students Young artists (ages 8+) and their adults will learn the basics of circular weaving to create their very own, joyful woven flowers! Circular weaving is a flexible and expressive way to create woven artwork. It’s a perfect introduction for anyone who’s ever been interested in weaving. No experience is needed, and all materials are provided. Class limited to 14.

Bring mom and create with clay together! Learn basic slab and pinch building techniques to make your own special cup, bowl, or planter pot. During the workshop, you will both make and decorate your individual projects. Instructors will glaze and fire your pieces to be picked up approximately 2-3 weeks after the class date.

Come hang out and make art at the Phipps art studio, a place for connections and creativity! Teens are welcome to either join a planned project each week exploring new mediums, techniques and ideas or work on their own projects with support from our teaching artist. Experiment with new materials available in the studio or bring your own. Some weeks, we’ll take a gallery stroll to check out current Phipps exhibitions for fresh inspiration. (no class March 13) Teen Art Studio is a low-cost program made possible with support from the Hudson Community Foundation and through a generous contribution from Winkie and Bill Coyne. This class will cover the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel and working with clay. Topics covered will include throwing cylinders and bowls, trimming and finished pieces, adding handles, and glazing. Complete beginners and those with some experience are welcome to learn and develop their skills. Students will also receive 8 hours of studio access per week to practice outside of class.

Level up your pottery skills! Intermediate and Advanced students will learn more complex techniques to create forms such as plates, lidded jars, pitchers, etc. as well as developing and honing skills and craftsmanship. Throughout the session there will be demonstrations from the instructor as well as one-on-one time to work through your own ideas. Students will also receive 8 hours of studio access per week to work on projects independently.
