This new class offering is for adults of all abilities and ages who wish to explore a variety of movement and dance. Dance style changes with each session— Fall is Modern and Winter is Latin Jazz! This class does not perform in recital or have costumes.

Cardio Dance is a fun, upbeat class that doesn’t require any prior dance experience. This class offers simple, repetitive choreography that is specific to each song, and many of the movements can be modified to the individual’s level. The same set of the songs, along with the choreography, is used throughout the session, allowing you to focus on getting your groove (and sweat) on!
Students may enroll for whole 16-week session, or purchase a punch card for 8 classes for $82. Unused punches on card may not be carried over to next session.

Experience all foundational ballet has to offer with adaptations for the new, returning, injured or mature dancer.
Dress requirement: comfortable, athletic attire. Ballet slippers are recommended, but socks will work too

Explore Hatha yoga and somatic strength training for conditioning and resiliency. This practice is supportive to all levels. Find steadiness/ease while learning to trust your body, integrate, protect your joints, increase core stabilization, build strength, flexibility, and body awareness. Somatic learning means slowing down and sensing the movement from the inside out to build awareness. Students may enroll for whole 16-week session, or purchase a punch card for 8 classes for $110.
Recommended: a sticky mat, strap, block, and blanket for this class.

Whether you're new to tai chi or strengthening your practice, join certified instructor Mark Tomlinson for this gentle, low-impact class. Tai chi is a powerful form of movement that supports both physical and mental well-being. Regular practice can improve balance, flexibility, body awareness, and overall health, while also helping to reduce stress. Especially beneficial for older adults, tai chi offers a good way to stay active and may help lower the risk of falls. All experience levels welcome.

Tap includes warm-up exercises that increase control, coordination, and rhythm; across the floor exercises that teach dynamics, phrasing, and musicality; and extended rhythmic phrases and improvisation exercises. The goal is to develop tap dancers that are equally strong musicians, dancers, and performers.
Dress requirement: Comfortable clothing (no jeans). Tap shoes.

Latin Dance is for adults of ages and all abilities. Explore Latin footwork, including rhythms of Salsa, Cha-cha, and Bachata. No partnering necessary, yet after learning the rhythms you can enjoy jumping into a Latin dance party.

Contemporary dance is a modern art form that infuses methods of ballet, jazz, and modern, creating a fluid style of movement that encourages self–expression. It explores dynamic movements and music that can be unconventional, abstract, and deeply artistic. Students will participate in a warmup, series of across–the–floor combinations, and a culmination of choreography.
Dress requirement: athletic clothing, bare feet, socks, or turners

Jazz dance classes at the Phipps will explore style, energy, and variety in both classical and contemporary jazz styles. Jazz dance is technical, dynamic, and heavy on musicality. Jazz training will develop strength, correct alignment, flexibility, rhythm, and expression in dancers. Classes will begin with a warmup then work on skills and combinations in center and across–the–floor to upbeat music.
Dress requirement: leotards or athletic clothing, jazz shoes or turners

Hip hop dance is high–energy, diverse, urban, complex, and always evolving. It is a modern art form with roots in ancient African dance styles. Students will explore elements of popping, locking, breaking, and freestyle movements that are heavy on dynamic changes and rhythms. Classes will feature a warmup, across–the–floor combinations and choreography to current pop and hip–hop music artists.
Dress requirement: Athletic clothing, clean tennis shoes
