Week 5 - Summer Arts Camp

$0.00
  • Discover the magic of nature through art and stories! In this camp, little artists will explore the natural world through observation, and we’ll spend the week using elements from nature to create fun projects. From painting to printmaking to collage, we’ll bring to life nature, fairies, and forest friends, and make magical items like wands and wings!

  • Level up your summer with Game On! In this camp, young artists will use video games as inspiration for fun art projects. Campers will learn about pixels and digital style while creating artwork inspired by video games across the generations, from retro classics to modern favorites—no controllers required! We’ll design game characters, create worlds and make pixel art.

  • Get your hands dirty this summer! Learn about clay and the basic techniques of throwing pottery on the wheel. Create cups and bowls and experiment with different techniques for adding finishing touches to your work. All work will be fired with food-safe glazes. Look for an email from the Phipps when the pottery is ready for pick up, approximately two weeks after camp. Closed-toed shoes must be worn in the Ceramics Studio.

  • Discover the joy of printmaking as you explore a variety of tools, materials, and creative techniques. Campers will experiment with cutting linocuts and block printing—where one design can create multiple prints—plus making one-of-a-kind monographs and textured collagraph prints. These projects encourage campers to think creatively, work with their hands, and discover the satisfaction of making multiples. By the end of camp, new printmakers will head home with a collection of original prints and a solid foundation in this dynamic art form.

  • Save those delivery boxes and create amazing art! This camp will develop campers’ creativity while creating sculptures and more from everyday recyclables such as delivery boxes, cereal/cracker boxes, paper towel rolls, and more. Campers will learn different attachment techniques, strengthen the structure, add color and additional odds and ends to make unique, creative masterpieces you will want to show the whole family. This class has open-ended projects, so even campers who have already participated will enjoy creating new ideas with cardboard.

  • Make your mark! In this high-energy camp, teens learn how to design cool graffiti-style lettering using bubble letters, block letters, and 3D letters with shadows. Campers will explore what makes graffiti pop—overlapping letters, highlights, drop shadows, thick and thin lines, arrows, broken shapes, and drippy paint effects—while having fun and building their own unique style.

  • Using characters and stories from the popular Disney TV show about Australian dog Bluey, campers will learn & experiment with theatre skills and techniques using imaginative play, stories, art, music & movement. Campers will present a demonstration of what they have learned on the final day of camp.

  • This camp explores how story and character come to life through physical movement onstage. Using theatre games, guided exercises, and both individual and group scene work, actors will build body awareness, practice nonverbal storytelling, and develop expressive, intentional movement. Campers will share their progress through a final-day demonstration and short, original devised scenes.

  • When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys' expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what's right. Including the now-classic songs "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," and "King of New York," Newsies Jr. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.

  • Campers who are ready to dive deep into creating fully realized stage characters will love this camp, which focuses on making bold, specific physical and acting choices and developing rich backstories. Fascinating and fun, this camp gives campers the chance to strengthen their acting skills by creating detailed, believable characters and exploring who they are onstage. Campers will share their work with a demonstration on the last day of camp.

  • This class is a great way for dancers to learn fun new leaps and turns and to hone their skills. Greta will focus on training dancers to execute advanced skills safely and with proper technique through drills that help dancers find their balance and power. Dress requirement: athletic clothing, turners or jazz shoes.
