Pottery

Each person must register as a separate student. Celebrate your mom by being creative side-by-side! Learn basic handbuilding techniques including slab and pinch methods to create cups, bowls or planter pots. During the workshop, you will design, build and decorate your own special pieces. Our instructors will glaze and fire your work which will be ready for pick up 2-3 weeks after the workshop. Take home sweet memories and beautiful artwork that you created together.

Adult and child MUST register as separate students. $32 class fee is for one person only. Kids (ages 5+) and their adults will make their own handbuilt garden gnomes using slab, pinch, and coil techniques. Design, create and decorate your projects and make memories together along the way! The instructor will coat with a clear glaze and kiln fire the projects which will be available for pick up 2-3 weeks after the class.

SUMMER OPEN STUDIO IS LIMITED TO WEEKEND ACCESS ONLY

Open studio gives experienced students the freedom to practice their wheel throwing and handbuilding skills independently. Participants must have taken an 8-week ceramics course at the Phipps within the last 3 years or seek special permission from the studio manager; no instruction will be provided during this session. Includes 8 hours of studio access per weekend, one 25lb bag of clay, access to pottery wheels, clay tools, glazes and kiln firing. Additional bags of clay can be purchased for $25 each. Studio participants must reserve their pottery wheel timeslots on a weekly basis. Class size is limited to ten. Ceramics Studio has kick wheels (some motorized).

Have you ever wanted to learn how to throw on the potter’s wheel? This one-night workshop is for you! It will be a fun night out, so bring your partner, family or group of friends. Participants will receive a wheel throwing demonstration and time to throw on the wheel with instructor guidance. Students will choose a glaze color, and instructors will glaze and fire pieces to be ready for pick up approximately 2-3 weeks after the class date. All materials are included, and you'll receive a drink voucher to use at Phipps concessions.
