Young artists explore three-dimensional art through sculpture, construction, and mixed media over six weeks. Kids will work with diverse materials, including paper mache, wire, found objects, and yarns, to create original sculptural pieces. We’ll explore form and space, play with combining materials in creative ways, and learn techniques for construction. Great for kids who love to build, construct, and see their ideas come to life.

Each person must register as a separate student. Celebrate your mom by being creative side-by-side! Learn basic handbuilding techniques including slab and pinch methods to create cups, bowls or planter pots. During the workshop, you will design, build and decorate your own special pieces. Our instructors will glaze and fire your work which will be ready for pick up 2-3 weeks after the workshop. Take home sweet memories and beautiful artwork that you created together.

Come celebrate springtime and make your own fairy or frog house for your garden! Kids will create, build and decorate their houses, experimenting with clay techniques for construction and design. The instructor will coat with a clear glaze and kiln fire the projects which will be available for pick up 2-3 weeks after the class. Class size is limited to 10.

Adult and child MUST register as separate students. $32 class fee is for one person only. Kids (ages 5+) and their adults will make their own handbuilt garden gnomes using slab, pinch, and coil techniques. Design, create and decorate your projects and make memories together along the way! The instructor will coat with a clear glaze and kiln fire the projects which will be available for pick up 2-3 weeks after the class.

This class will cover the basics of throwing on the potter’s wheel and working with clay. Topics covered will include throwing cylinders and bowls, trimming and finished pieces, adding handles, and glazing. Complete beginners and those with some experience are welcome to learn and develop their skills. Students will also receive 8 hours of studio access per week to practice outside of class.

Level up your pottery skills! Intermediate and Advanced students will learn more complex techniques to create forms such as plates, lidded jars, tea pots, pitchers, etc. Throughout the 8-week session there will be demonstrations from the instructor as well as one-on-one time to work through your own ideas. Additionally, students will learn how to fire an electric kiln by having the chance to participate in the loading with the guidance of the instructor. Students will also receive 8 hours of studio access per week to work on projects independently. Class size is limited to 9 Ceramics Studio has kick wheels (some motorized). Come hang out and make art at the Phipps art studio, a place for connections and creativity! Teens are welcome to either join a planned project each week exploring new mediums, techniques and ideas or work on their own projects with support from our teaching artist. Experiment with new materials available in the studio or bring your own. Some weeks, we’ll take a gallery stroll to check out current Phipps exhibitions for fresh inspiration. Teens can register and join at any time during the session. Teen Art Studio is a low-cost program made possible through a generous contribution from Winkie and Bill Coyne.
