In this six-week Printmaking Studio, young artists will explore different printmaking techniques while playing with layering, pattern, color, texture, and composition. This fun, welcoming weekly class encourages creativity and experimentation as students develop their artistic skills and discover new ways to make their mark. All materials included.

Spend a Saturday making one-of-a-kind hanging ornaments and unique holiday mugs with the young artist in your life! Learn basic hand-building techniques as you design, build, and decorate. (Adult and child register separately.)

A festive drop-in event to design and create holiday clay ornaments for your tree or as gifts. Instructors guide you through making handmade ornaments with stamps, texture tools, and cookie cutters, then painting with colorful underglazes. Fired and ready to pick up before Christmas.

Kids (age 8+) and their adults will building charming animal-inspired vases or sculptural vessels like a duck, giraffe, goose, or turtle (or a creature entirely of your own invention!) using pinch-pot techniques.
Participants will join two pinch pots to create a rounded body and add expressive details such as long necks, ears, eyes, beaks, horns, feet, tails, and spots. Some clay experience is helpful, as the project includes securely attaching and sculpting several pieces together.
Projects will be glazed and kiln-fired by the instructor and ready for pickup approximately 3 weeks after class.
Adult and child must each register separately.

Our youngest artists will explore the process of making art through hands-on experimentation with different materials, tools, and techniques. Each six-week session begins with a story for inspiration, followed by plenty of time and space for creative choices, self-expression, and a little mess. Sessions are themed, so drop in for one or come for all three! All materials included.
Winter theme, By the Book: Paint, color, cut, crumple and glue! Projects are inspired by picture books.

This class will cover the basics of throwing on the potter's wheel and working with clay. Topics covered will include throwing cylinders and bowls, trimming and finishing pieces, adding handles, and glazing. Complete beginners as well as those with some experience are welcome to learn and develop their skills. Students will also receive 8 hours of studio access per week to practice outside of class.

Level up your pottery skills! Intermediate and Advanced students will learn more complex techniques to create forms such as plates, lidded jars, tea pots, pitchers, etc. Throughout the session there will be demonstrations from the instructor as well as one-on-one time to work through your own ideas. Additionally, students will learn how to fire an electric kiln by having the chance to participate in the loading with the guidance of the instructor. Students will also receive 8 hours of studio access per week to work on projects independently.

Come hang out, make art and make new friends at the Phipps art studio! Teens are welcome to join a planned project each week exploring new mediums, techniques and ideas or work on their own projects with support from our teaching artist. Experiment with new materials available in the studio or bring your own. Some weeks, we'll take a gallery stroll to check out current Phipps exhibitions for fresh inspiration.
