With a year-round program of rotating exhibitions at multiple locations, the Phipps connects our community with the extraordinary artwork of regional artists. With our Enriching Arts Program, the Phipps inspires our community by presenting original artwork at local senior living and healthcare facilities.

“When we remember an event, we sometimes see it from the third-person point of view instead of through our own eyes. In that case, we become a witness to the event rather than the person directly experiencing the event, which affects how we narrate the memory. In my installations, I want viewers to feel as though they are shifting between being inside of and outside of a memory. By experiencing this perceptual shift, I hope viewers become aware of how they reconstruct and retell their own recollections.”
— Chris Rackley (Rochester, MN)
NorthStar Watermedia Society National 9th Annual National Juried Exhibition: Featuring highly creative works of art by national, regional, and local artists, the exhibition will be juried by Dan Mackerman, a well-known regional and national artist, who will select the best of the submitted entries for the exhibition and, ultimately, select the award winners. NorthStar Watermedia is the oldest watermedia society in Minnesota with members spread across the Twin Cities, Minnesota, and into neighboring states. The society is well-known for its lively and informative monthly meetings, art demos, workshops, and exhibitions.
“My work has always been driven by a desire to create a place of freedom for myself and for all those who consider themselves outsiders. Today (and really always), we find ourselves in a moment of cataclysm and upheaval, not by accident but as a result of the crushing limitations and controls set by centuries of patriarchal governance. A world that insists on binary thought—white/ black, good/bad, male/female—stifles who we truly are and what we can become: beautifully multi-layered and multifaceted, distinct yet cohesive.”
— Chris Cinque (Minneapolis, MN)
“Although I strive to make imagery that is accurate, the nature of ‘realism’ perplexes me. What does it mean for art to be ‘realistic’? In this work, I am trying to sidestep the parallel universe that such a question implies by physically representing small bits of imagined space in diorama form. It is my hope to create work that will inspire curiosity and self-reflection. I want to engage viewers of all ages and experiences in my small worlds.”
— Howard Quednau (Minneapolis, MN)
The Enriching Arts Program brings original art by regional artists into senior living facilities. The exhibitions are presented in the most public spaces of these campuses and change every three months to create new experiences for residents, visitors and staff to enjoy and appreciate together.
