Little Doodlers: Cute and Cuddly Art Class

Using beloved collections of Shel Silverstein poems, students learn and experiment with theater skills and techniques using imaginative play, art, music, and movement. Actors Workshop: Wayside School

Ages 9+

Wayside School is 30 stories high. And there is no 19th floor. Mrs. Jewls replaced the evil Mrs. Gorf because she kept turning students into apples. Miss Mush the Lunch Lady makes terrible food and Louis the Caretaker has a mustache of many colors! In this class we will start with the stories from Louis Sachar’s Wayside School and bring them to life on stage. Students will write the scripts, create props, costumes, and sets and perform at 4 p.m. on the final day of class. This is a great opportunity to create small and large group scene work as well as develop your stage presence in rehearsal and performance.

Sketching in the Moment

This is an adventure in drawing what you see. We will start by sketching some artwork in the gallery, some portraits, some objects, then focus on the waterfront and the historic buildings downtown. Mono-printing is a simple printmaking technique that involves rolling or drawing with ink onto a printed surface/plate and creating a mark in several ways. Somali Hand Weaving

Learn traditional finger weaving from four Somali grandmothers. Using no loom or frame, Somali nomads weave mats by hand to cover their houses.
