The Phipps Summer Update – building renovations planned for June through August.
In 2013, The Phipps Center for the Arts completed a transformational capital campaign to renovate and update many areas of the building. The campaign, called Staging Our Future, sought to repair, refresh, and renew The Phipps for the next generation. Over the past eight years, many updates have been completed, including overhauling our stage lighting and theater sound systems, renovating the Galleries, adding a Ceramics Studio, and a landmark sign in front of The Phipps—one of our most visible transformations.
The second phase of the project, which includes the lobby and common areas, has been more challenging to schedule because it requires us to close the lobby, something that was near impossible before the pandemic as our programming filled the center for more than 340 days out of the year. As we anticipate the COVID pandemic will continue to affect the summer months, we have identified June through August as the best time possible to close a main portion of the center to complete this work. We still plan to have some outdoor and ancillary programs including Summer Art Camps operating out of the north end of the center.
Please look for summer programming information and other renovation updates on our website. We are so appreciative of the generosity of the community in giving to this campaign, and we are excited to share the new Phipps with you this fall.
