Open Studio
Ages 18 and older

Open studio is available to adults who want to practice their wheel throwing and hand-building skills. Participants must have taken an 8-week ceramics course at the Phipps within the last 3 years or seek special permission from the Studio Manager, no instruction will be provided during this 8-week session. Participants will receive 10 hours of studio access per week, one 25lb bag of clay, access to pottery wheels, clay tools, kiln firing and glazes (additional bags of clay can be purchased for $20 each). Studio participants must sign up for timeslots on a weekly basis in order to secure a wheel to work on. Class size is limited to nine.
Beginning/Intermediate Pottery on the Wheel
Ages 14 through adult
Eight Mondays, April 4 – May 23
6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Beginning participants will learn basic techniques for throwing pots on the potter’s wheel. For the intermediate potter, this class offers an in-depth development of more advanced skills and techniques. All students will be supported by the instructor in developing the skills they would like to work on; and if they are unsure, the instructor has many ideas. Having a mix of skill levels in class makes for a fun and diverse learning environment. Class size is limited to nine. **Students will also receive 8 hours of studio access per week to work on projects independently. Studio participants must sign-up for timeslots on a weekly basis to secure a wheel to work on.
Handbuilding 101
Ages 14 through adult
Four Tuesdays, April 19 – May 10

In this class students will learn how to make pottery without the use of the potter’s wheel. Students will learn a variety of handbuilding techniques including pinch, coil, and slab, as well as basic surface decoration techniques. This class is a great option for people who want to make functional pottery but don’t want to use a pottery wheel. Open to all skill levels. Students will receive 8 hours of studio time per week to work on projects independently.

Make Your Own Entomology (Bug) Board

Spring is in the air and bugs are crawling around the ground! In this class you will learn basic sculpting and hand building skills to explore making your own creatures out of clay for you to sort and display your creative and scientific findings. Students will make and decorate their work, the instructor will cover it with a clear glaze, and it will be finished and available to be picked up 1-2 weeks after the class.
Springtime Fairy Houses

Saturday, May 21
1-3pm
Fee: $32
Students will be guided through the process of making their own fairy house to celebrate the springtime. Students will make and decorate their projects, instructor will coat with a clear glaze, and they will be finished and available to be picked up 1-2 weeks after the class.
