The Phipps Dance Company, a non-competitive performing company led by director Christina Leines and associate director Stephanie Campbell, celebrates its 11th season with showcase performances. The 2015-16 company is comprised of 18 auditioned dancers who range in age from 13 to 18 years old. The company focuses on building well-rounded, technically advanced young dancers. To audition for the company, the dancers are required to have at least two years of prior dance training. As company members, the dancers have weekly rehearsals and must take at least two dance technique classes per week.
The performances will feature a variety of styles, including musical theater, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary ballet. Guest choreographers this season include Lauren Baker, Alyssa Casey, Melissa Huber, Mackenzie Lewis, Jennifer Mack, and J-Sun.
The Phipps Junior Dance Company, led by Lewis and now in its third season, will also perform. For ages 9 to 13 years old, this company prepares young dancers for their future with The Phipps Dance Company and beyond. The junior dance company is made up of 13 auditioned dancers who rehearse September through May for performances locally and throughout the Twin Cities. Their 2015-16 season consists of performances at Diversity Days at Hudson High School, Spring Showcase in Hudson, a Minnesota Timberwolves half-time performance in January, and Dance in Revue at the center in May.
The performances will feature a variety of styles, including lyrical, jazz, tap, and hip-hop.
Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for students for this production in the main theater.
