Event Description

Instructor: Kat Corrigan

Three Sundays
October 7, 14, 28
Fee: $85 per session, or $240 for all three
Materials: $25 paid to instructor for first session; $13 paid to instructor for each additional session

Classes begin with demos, tips and hints followed by enforced painting time. The first class will focus on observational drawing skills, seeing value and contrast, selecting still life objects to paint. The second class will look at landscapes and/or interiors using a viewfinder to draw and paint, and the third class will use photos as reference, including photos on digital media like cameras, iphones and laptops. We will study drawing skills, composition, value, using a viewfinder, preparatory sketching, mixing color and color theory. Each class will also incorporate gentle critiques looking at your work and seeing how many ways there are to see a similar object. You will bring your adult experience to this class and your courage and your non-judgmental self, and you will learn.

Instructor Kat Corrigan is an award winning Minneapolis artist whose work is widely collected in the United States as well as Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Japan, and Lebanon. She spends a week every spring at the Grand Marais Art Colony for re-inspiration, and teaches there in the summer. Kat also offers Painting Lessons from her studio in the Ivy Building in South Minneapolis as well as through Wet Paint in St Paul and Crossings at Carnegie in Zumbrota, MN. Kat is committed to the concept of A Painting A Day and posts a daily blog detailing her work. She shows in area art fairs and galleries and actively seeks commissions.
