For students with at least three years of recent dance who want to learn the tools needed to created dances expressing a personal vision. Develop integrity of form and structure while showing a pronounced awareness of the individual’s movement vocabulary. Broaden understanding of movement improvisation and how it is applied to choreography as well as learning other choreographic tools, which will be implemented through brief assignments related to dance and performance.
For the creative individual who is constantly making up his/her own dances, loves listening to music, and who wants to share his/her creativity through dance.
Classes will be held in the following sessions:
Session 1 | Four Classes | Fee: $48 per student
Mondays | June 19 & 26 | 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Wednesdays | June 21 & 28 | 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Dress requirement: Leotards or fitted dance wear.
About the Instructor:
Mackenzie Lewis holds a B.A. in Dance from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities along with a dance education minor from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She has been the director of The Phipps Dance Theater for the past seven seasons, and the director of The Phipps Junior Dance Company for the past four seasons. Lewis has been teaching technique classes at The Phipps since 2010 as well as choreographing for The Phipps Dance Company and theatrical productions at the center. She enjoys every aspect of dancing, choreographing, teaching, and performing, and is grateful to make her passion her career.
