Join us for an evening of creativity and conversation
The Galleries Opening reception is Friday, March 2, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Stroll through the newest exhibit, talk with the featured artists and enjoy some light refreshments. Make sure to arrive early for a gallery talk by local artist Marjorie Wade.
Wade of Afton, Minn., is a studio potter working with stoneware, porcelain, and earthenware clays. She earned degrees in psychology and sociology from St. Cloud State University in 1978. She began her formal studies of ceramics in 1998, and has taken numerous classes, programs and workshops, including post-baccalaureate studies in ceramics at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Wade creates pottery for everyday use and embraces simplicity in each piece. Her work is inspired and influenced by the pottery and artifacts from elements and qualities from these traditions into her pottery that allows aspects of these cultures to be part of the world today. The nuances in the patterns and textures found in objects from these countries are essential to her work. She is also influenced by the Japanese folk tradition of mingei, which honors the simple beauty in everyday objects made for daily use.
Wade is part of Earth and Water: Ceramic Art in the St. Croix Valley, an ongoing exhibit from The Phipps Center for the Arts in partnership with Northern Clay Center.
