John Mortimer’s adaptation, commissioned by The Royal Shakespeare Company, tell the classic story using an ensemble which plays many roles, including that of narrators. The dry wit and charm of the Dickens novella is captured in this fast-moving play, full of ghosts, greedy men, loving families, and traditional carols, against a panoramic view of Victorian London. All cast members will play multiple roles with the exception of Scrooge, who is on stage during the entire play. All cast members will also sing.
The role of Scrooge is a demanding and rewarding role, and the ensemble will be busy throughout the show. The director is looking to cast between 20 and 30, including children, age 10 and older.
All auditions will consist of readings from the script and singing a prepared Christmas carol. All auditioning should bring a headshot and resume, if available, and a list of conflicts during the rehearsal period.
Rehearsals will be held Monday – Friday evenings, beginning on Tuesday, September 20. Fifteen performances will be given on Fridays, November 18 and 25, December 2, 9, and 16; Saturday, December 3 at 2 p.m.; Saturdays, November 19 and 26, December 10 and 17 at 7 p.m.; Sunday, December 4 at 7 p.m.; and Sundays, November 20 and 27, December 11 and 18 at 2 p.m.
